Newport is a city unlike any other. We are a magnificent blend of deep-rooted history, military heritage, a vibrant economy, and remarkable natural and architectural beauty. But what really fuels us is the spirit of the people who call this place home.
Today, we’re at a crossroads: housing pressures, aging infrastructure, rapid development, seasonal workforce gaps and frequent gridlock are testing our resilience. These aren't just government problems or business hurdles, they are collective community challenges.
It's time to start bridging the gaps, turning obstacles into the foundation for a stronger, more connected Newport. That’s why I’m running for City Council.
My experience on the Newport School Committee has taught me that lasting progress is built on trust, open communication, and bringing people together with a shared purpose. Businesses and schools. Residents and city government. The Naval Station and our nonprofit community. Young families and longtime Newporters. We are stronger when we connect the many assets that make Newport extraordinary and work together toward common goals.
I am running for Newport City Council At-Large because it offers a broader opportunity to tackle the challenges facing our city and to proactively shape solutions.
Four pillars define my approach to leadership and service:
Practical: Ask tough questions. Find solutions.
Principled: Lead with conviction. Serve with integrity.
Persistent: Stay the course. Deliver results.
Purposeful: Lead with conviction. Serve with integrity.
Newport is at a pivotal point. We must protect the unique character of our city while thoughtfully preparing for the future. This means building stronger connections between our classrooms and our economy, investing in modern infrastructure, and supporting both our residents and local businesses. Above all, we need leadership that listens first, asks the tough questions, and brings people together with a 'can-do' commitment to getting the job done.
My commitment to Newport is rooted in centuries of family history, from my 17th-century English ancestors who helped pioneer this "Lively Experiment" to my Irish great-grandparents who came from Roscommon in the 1880's to forge a new life. This legacy is the driving force behind my desire to serve. I will carry forward that spirit to shape a thriving future for all of us.
I am excited to spend the months ahead walking our neighborhoods, listening to residents, and learning what matters most to you. Because the best ideas do not begin in council chambers - they begin in conversations, on front porches, in classrooms, workplaces, and throughout the community we share.
Together, we can build a Newport that is more connected, more livable, and more prosperous - for today's residents and for generations to come.
Practical. Principled. Persistent. Purposeful.
Join me in bridging the gap between today's challenges and tomorrow's opportunities for all Newporters.
I respectfully ask for your support.
